Lighted signs can come in just about any shaped, size or fashion one has the imagination to design and produce. The lighted box type sign is constructed of an aluminum extrusion to form the box itself. The sign is illuminated internally with 800 ma high output lamps to give a bright even lighting. Sign faces on this type of sign are usually plastic or flexface material. In Example 1, the top sign is flexface material, which we recommend for large sign faces. The material
is flat and is very durable to the elements and does not break.
You also do not have a problem with the sign face trying to blow out. The bottom sign on Example 1 has a plastic face with rails for
changeable copy. In smaller lighted signs, plastic or polycarbonate plastic faces are suitable. The advantage of plastic is you can emboss the faces to give your copy a 3-dimensional effect. As in Example 1, you can dress up the structure with an aluminum painted pole covering to make your display more appealing and colorful.

Another type of internally lighted sign can have aluminum routed out faces. The copy is cut out of the .080 - .125 aluminum background and plastic is fastened to the inside of the routed face. With this type of sign only the copy or routed out portion of the sign illuminates. The advantage of this type of sign is it gives you a very strong and durable sign face. It also gives the
appearance of a slightly recessed letter. See Example 2.

An exposed neon sign is another great way to attract attention to your business. This starts with an aluminum painted cabinet with copy and graphics of the design used. Instead of the illumination coming from within the sign, neon is shaped and fashioned to the copy and logos appearing on the face of the sign. In the daytime you see the copy and graphics on the faces much as you do on a plastic face sign, but at night the neon spells out your copy and graphics. See Example 3a & 3b. This example also shows a plastic faced, internally illuminated sign in
conjunction with the exposed neon sign. An example of two types of lighted signs brought together for one purpose: GET ATTENTION and ADVERTISE YOUR PRODUCTS!

To really advertise your business and the products and services you sell, you may want to consider an electronic message sign incorporated into your pylon or wall sign. In Example 4a there is a multitude of examples of what you can do in designing a sign. This sign has
backlighted letters: At Home Healthcare. When lit, they cast a halo light onto the background. Around the apple logo and house, there is exposed neon outlining the apple, apple leaf and house configurations. The pole cover has halo effect lighting around the blue color, outlining the pole cover with a soft lighting effect. The electronic message center can broadcast any message you wish to display. It is programmed from a computer located conveniently inside.

Lighted building signs are also important in identifying your business. You may not always have a place for a pylon type sign. Single faced box signs are manufactured in the same manner as the double faced pylon signs as previously shown. The only significant difference being there is only one face and the sign is mounted to the wall or facade of the building.
A good example of a building sign is individual letters, either mounted on a raceway or mounted directly to the building. Example 4 shows individual letters mounted to a raceway that is painted to match the building. Also this example shows clear plastic faces which show the neon that outlines the letter. Example 5 shows colored plastic faces; instead of seeing the neon you see the entire colored plastic face illuminate.
Another type of lighted letter is the back lighted or reverse channel letter. The neon is inside the letter and reflects the light off the wall background giving a halo effect. The faces and sides of these types of letters are usually all aluminum and painted. See Example 6.
An economical lighted sign to use would be a neon window sign. You can put your name and/or product line in neon to attract attention day and night. Or you can just outline your windows to draw attention to the store. Exposed neon is very eye catching, even
in the daytime if the right colors are used. See Example 6a.
In addition to the conventional type signs, Kirkland Sign Co., Inc. also manufactures and installs illuminated awnings. These also can be built in various sizes and configurations. A whole spectrum of colors is available. When lit, the whole awning lights up and also throws a down light onto the wall and sidewalk below helping light up your store front. See Example 7.
This is just a small sample of the styles, configurations and types of illuminated electrical signs. The only limit is imagination. Please, if you have any questions or need a quote, contact us in person, phone or e-mail. Our business is to help your business.
